EU to begin negotiations with Serbia on accession

The European Commission recommended today that negotiations be opened with Serbia on EU accession, given the progress it has achieved.

A report on Serbia underlines that it has met the key priority of taking steps towards a visible and sustainable improvement of relations with Kosovo.

The European Commission recommended today that negotiations be opened with Serbia on EU accession, given the progress it has achieved.

The announcement comes three days after the Serbian government and the Kosovan government struck a landmark deal following an EU-facilitated dialogue. The Commission also recommended negotiations be opened with Kosovo on a Stabilisation and Association Agreement with the EU.
