EU reaffirms plan to improve Irish aid

The European council President Herman van Rompuy has said European leaders are to re-examine the Irish aid package "with a view to further improving the sustainability" of the programme.

The European Council President Herman van Rompuy has said European leaders are to re-examine the Irish aid package "with a view to further improving the sustainability" of the programme.

Speaking in parliament in Strasbourg, he said last week's summit meeting "reaffirmed our strong commitment to do what is necessary to ensure the financial stability of the euro area."
