EU parliament approves Kevin Cardiff nomination

UPDATE: The European Parliament has voted to support the nomination of Kevin Cardiff to the European audit body.

The European Parliament has voted in favour of nominating Department of Finance official Kevin Cardiff to a key role on the European Court of Auditors.

There were 521 votes for Cardiff, 128 against, and 34 abstentions, according to RTE News.

Labour MEP Nessa Childers earlier said she planned to vote against the proposal, saying she considered Cardiff an "inappropriate" candidate.
