EU industry committee votes to end roaming charges

From 2015, making a call or sending a text in another EU country could cost no more than it does at home.

18th March, 2014
Roaming charges could be abolished within the EU by 2015

Making a call or sending an email from a mobile phone in another EU country could cost the same as doing so at home starting 15 December 2015, under new legislation adopted by the European Parliament's industry committee.

Before the new rules can come into force, they must still be approved by both the European Parliament and the Council.

The EU has been reducing roaming charges gradually since 2007.
