Up to 6,000 temporary agency workers could lose their jobs in the coming months because of the implementation of a new EU directive, employers' groups have warned.

The Temporary Agency Workers Directive, which affects around 2 per cent of the workforce, takes effect tomorrow.

It means that all workers employed through an agency will be entitled to the same pay for doing the same work as a full-time employee .
