Details of events in Haditha are far from sketchy, as there were plenty of witnesses, and pictures of blood-spattered beds. The bodies of infants tell their own tragically eloquent story. However, details of the US military’s new ethics training are extremely sketchy, as is often the case with knee-jerk public relations stunts.

Indeed, many American outlets described the initiative as a lesson in ‘‘core warrior values’’, which presumably plays better with the folks...
