ESB unions vote for industrial action over pension problems

ESB unions have voted overwhelmingly for industrial action in their dispute with the company over its method of accounting for the pension.

ESB unions have voted overwhelmingly for industrial action in their dispute with the company over its method of accounting for the pension.

The members of the five ESB unions voted by 87.5 per cent for strike action and the group of unions is to meet on Friday to decide its next move. It argues that the ESB is wrong to not account for the pension, which has a €1.6 billion deficit, as a defined benefit scheme.
