ESB and Bord Gáis could be facing a dramatic increase in the cost of borrowing to fund long-term multibillion-euro investment programmes, senior officials at the energy department have warned the government. ESB and Bord Gáis, as well as national grid operator EirGrid and Bord na Mo¤ na, have set out ambitious €30billion expansion programmes to be funded almost exclusively from borrowings.
