Emily O'Reilly elected Europe's first woman Ombudsman

Ombudsman and Information Commissioner Emily O’Reilly has been elected by the European Parliament as European Ombudsman.

It's the first time a woman has held this role.

A majority of members of the Strasbourg parliament voted for O’Reilly to succeed Nikiforos Diamandouros in the position, which is an independent and impartial body that investigates complaints about maladministration in EU institutions, bodies, offices, and agencies.
