WB Yeats’s poetry and fantastical visions were greatly inspired by time spent visiting cousins in Avena House, Ballisodare, as a child, writes Conor Murphy
Almost eight decades on from his death, WB Yeats remains everywhere to be found in Sligo. All manner of Yeats festivals and events take place throughout the year, and plaques with snippets of poetry mark the sites immortalised in his work.
Tourists still flock en masse to the foothills of Ben Bulben, paying homage to a writer who may well have abhorred their intrusion were he still alive.
