An international team of observers at the recent general election is expected to recommend better management of the electoral register and a greater involvement by disadvantaged groups in the electoral system.

The delegation from the Office of Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) - a branch of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) - was invited by the outgoing government to observe elections in Ireland for the first time.
