Eirgrid plans to carry out a marine survey this summer as part of a feasibility study into running a €1 billion electricity interconnector between Ireland and France.
The 600 kilometre long cable would allow Irish energy customers to benefit from cheap French nuclear power, while French customers could benefit from any excess wind power generated on the Irish system.
