Eircom to retain Meteor brand name

Eircom is set to pursue a dual branding strategy in relation to Meteor, the mobile phone company it is in the process of buying for €420 million.

The move will see Eircom retain the Meteor name and branding for pre-paid customers, which numbered 410,000 at the end of June.

About 95 per cent of Meteor's customers are in the lower margin pre-paid sector.
