Eircom was left fighting a public relations battle last week over the security of its wireless broadband routers.

The company was forced to issue a security alert warning that its wireless routers were vulnerable to interference from hackers or third parties if basic security measures were not implemented by its customers (see http://tinyurl. com/2akrfn).

According to the company, the situation affects 250,000 of its broadband customers.
