Eircom asks state to foot €200m broadband bill

Eircom is preparing to ask the government to pay up to €200 million to fix a problem with its network, which is holding back the rollout of broadband in rural areas.

The government has said it will fund the upgrading of some rural phone exchanges where broadband is not economically viable, but Eircom wants it to go further and fix the problem of shared lines.
