Russian gas exports to Ukraine ceased on January 1 in a dispute reminiscent of the crisis which peaked in 2006.That led to Russia being depicted as a bully that left Ukrainians to freeze in the depths of winter. This time, however, things are different. Russia’s employment of western PR agencies and the fractious behaviour of Ukrainian politicians have attempted to shift blame from Moscow and towards Kiev.
