Echoes of the past as historic hotel contents go for auction

Cork hotel hosted key figures and memorialised legendary betting coup The Gay Future Affair

The Victoria Hotel on Cork’s St Patrick’s Street has welcomed leading figures in Irish history, such as Charles Stewart Parnell and Michael Collins, through its doors since it opened two centuries ago.

The now-closed hotel also hosted the second-ever meeting of the Gaelic Athletic Association, in December 1884.

The new owner Joe Donnelly is auctioning the hotel contents on Saturday. In recent years the hotel was also home to CoCos nightclub.
