ECB bond-buying rumours intensify despite German mixed signals

UPDATE: European stocks rebounded after a Le Monde report that the ECB is preparing to buy Spanish and Italian debt. But there were mixed signals from Germany and Brussels.

European stocks rebounded after Le Monde reported that the European Central Bank is preparing to buy Spanish and Italian debt.

But there were somewhat mixed signals from Germany as to whether such a bond buying exercise was a good idea. Earlier, Germany’s Bundesbank hasn’t changed its stance on bond purchases by the ECB, a spokeswoman for the Frankfurt-based institution was reported to have said by Bloomberg.
