EC objects to greyhound, horse Vat rate
The European Commission has raised objections about Ireland’s sympathetic Vat rates for the supply of greyhounds, writes Ian Kehoe.
In a week when hunts and hounds dominated the Dáil agenda, the European Commission has also queried the Vat rate applied to a number of transactions involving horses.
The Irish government has been given two months to amend the current legislation, after being presented with a ‘‘reasoned opinion���’ by the commission, which has examined Irish Vat rates on horses and greyhounds.
