Ten years ago, the British government commissioned a mixed oxide, or Mox, plant at the controversial site to recycle plutonium.
It was supposed to reprocess 120 tonnes per year, but since Britain only has a stockpile of 100 tonnes of plutonium, Mox was always going to rely on imports to be economically viable.
