Cardinal Sean Brady of Armagh, the head of the Catholic Church in Ireland, has announced the appointment of a successor, prior to stepping down later this year.
Mgr Eamon Martin, 51, has been named coadjutor archbishop to succeed Cardinal Brady on his retirement. Mgr Martin, who’s secretary to the Irish Bishops’ Conference, was elected administrator of the Diocese of Derry in 2011 following the resignation of Bishop Seamus Hegarty on health grounds.
