The European Commission has been asked to investigate the unsuccessful attempt by the Health Service Executive to stop a 17-year-old Irish girl from travelling to Britain for an abortion.

A member of the European Parliament has written to the commission, asking it to consider action against the HSE arising from its approach to the ‘‘Miss D’’ High Court case.
