Dunnes workers win right to get bonus in cash

Dunnes Stores cannot pay its employees Christmas bonuses in the form of vouchers, according to a decision by the Employment Appeals Tribunal (EAT).

Dunnes Stores cannot pay its employees Christmas bonuses in the form of vouchers, according to a decision by the Employment Appeals Tribunal (EAT).

In December 2005, Dunnes employee Eileen Buckley, of Ashgrove Park, Bishopstown, Co Cork, was given vouchers worth €295 as her Christmas bonus. She insisted that she wanted the bonus in cash, and referred the matter to a rights commissioner under the 1991 Payment of Wages Act.
