Last March, the sale of St Mary's, a detached period home with a large garden on Cowper Road in Rathmines, sent shock waves through the Dublin property market. The house had a guide price of €2.5 million, but sold under the hammer for an astonishing €6.275 million.

But, while this was probably the most spectacular and surprising sales result of the year, there have been plenty of surprising sums achieved for properties throughout the capital...
