Lending growth may be down, but the credit crunch has wiped out 40 per cent of Anglo’s competitors - so that may be good enough for now.
Perhaps it could be called making a virtue out of necessity. Anglo Irish Bank told shareholders last week that its loan book grew by €6.1 billion in the six months to March 2008, down from an increase of €9.3 billion in the same period last year.
