The drinks industry is suffering a €30 million hangover after the government’s decision to reduce excise duty on alcohol in the budget.
Wholesalers and off-licences that bought their Christmas stock before the budget have been told they will not be able to claim a rebate from the Revenue Commissioners following last week’s reductions.
The move is likely to cost the drinks industry between €25million and €30million, according to government estimates....
