The director of public prosecutions is expected to drop 19 cases involving the alleged statutory rape of minors, with the possibility of lesser charges being pursued in some cases.

The director of public prosecutions is expected to drop 19 cases involving the alleged statutory rape of minors, with the possibility of lesser charges being pursued in some cases.

Although the Supreme Court upheld the state’s appeal against the release of Mr A - who was rearrested last Friday - its decision about the unconstitutionality of the 1935 legislation under which he was convicted still stands.
