DPC will not investigate online multinationals

The Data Protection Commissioner (DPC) will not investigate Google, Microsoft or Facebook for illicit US surveillance of Irish and European citizens.

The Data Protection Commissioner (DPC) will not investigate Google, Microsoft or Facebook for illicit US surveillance of Irish and European citizens' emails, text messages and photos in Irish data centres.

According to the regulator, the DPC "has no plans" to investigate data protection breaches in Irish data centres owned by Microsoft and Google arising from alleged US intelligence surveillance.
