A Kilkenny solicitor who was fined €5,000 for double-charging a client who applied to the Residential Institutions Redress Board (RIRB) earned more than €140,000 in fees from the board last year.
Michael JP Buggy of Michael Buggy & Co, Parliament Street, told the client that legal fees were not recoverable from the board. He then negotiated his costs with the board without telling the client.
