Don't normalise abortion
There is a danger that current prospective legislation surrounding abortion may lead to a permissive regime similar to that of other countries, writes Fidelma Healy-Eames
At present, the government is considering putting legislation before the Oireachtas which would permit abortion where women claim they are suicidal in pregnancy.
A number of ministers have given public assurances that such legislation would be very restrictive. There is a suggestion in the last few days that a 'sunset' or review clause may be inserted into the legislation.
