Domestic travel market remains static, says ITIC

Nearly €1.4 billion was spent on domestic trips — including €840 million on holidays — in 2013.

Nearly €1.4 billion was spent on domestic trips — including €840 million on holidays — in 2013, according to new figures released today by the Irish Tourist Industry confederation (ITIC).

Overall expenditure was up 2 per cent on 2012, with holiday spend up 7 per cent.

The total number of trips, 7.1 million, was almost unchanged from 2012. At its peak in 2008, domestic trips exceeded 8 million.
