A docker who was caught playing golf when he was supposed to be taking his sick sister to the doctor has been awarded €1,000 compensation for unfair dismissal.

Denis McKenna, of Marsh Road, Drogheda, Co Louth, was employed by stevedoring company Martin Butterly & Co of North Quays in Drogheda.
