Anyone who has lived for any period of time in Ireland knows that there is a large national issue with alcohol, to put it mildly.

How long has the proposal on banning alcohol advertising and sponsorship been knocking around? This is the third government to consider the proposal. Back in 2005, Mary Harney was warning that she might introduce a complete ban on advertising. Eight years later, her successor, James Reilly, is pressing his colleagues to approve the move, without success so far.
