Back to the future in leafy Holywood

It was just like the old days, waking up to the news that a barracks had been bombed.

Except in the old days, the news usually carried a depressing roll-call of that night’s dead or injured.

Unlike the old days, last week’s explosion outside Palace Barracks in Holywood, Co Down, was met with puzzled indifference. Partly because there were no fatalities, but also because these days, political violence seems farcically nonsensical.
