Disputes to rise as staff take harder line
More workplace strife is expected across the country as jobs continue to be lost, writes Nicola Cooke
Two decades of social partnership and a buoyant economy with plenty of job opportunities resulted in a harmonious period of industrial relations in Ireland.
However, with job losses continuing on a weekly basis, and pay cuts and freezes now the norm, discord is stirring in parts of the workforce. With new Central Statistic Office (CSO) figures last Friday showing that the unemployment rate is at its highest since 1995, the situation is likely to get worse.
