German discount retailers Lidl and Aldi have increased their market share to their highest level since they entered the Irish market in 1999, new figures show.
The supermarket companies had a combined market share of 6.7 per cent for the year ending September 10, according to new data by researchers TNS Worldpanel Ireland. Lidl had 4.2 per cent of the market, while Aldi had 2.5 per cent.
This represents a considerable improvement on previous figures for the two companies.
