Things are changing at the BBC following the announcement by its director general, Mark Thompson, that there will be a 10 per cent cut in the corporation’s spending over the next five years.

The plan will see the broadcaster shed 2,000 jobs and radically change its programming but, for the time being at least, it has led to no reduction in its number of radio and television channels.
