Another week, another announcement from Digicel, the Caribbean mobile phone company founded, chaired and majority-owned by entrepreneur Denis O’Brien. Digicel’s launch in Trinidad & Tobago last week, with an investment of $200 million, follows a flurry of activity at the firm. Incorporated in Bermuda, Digicel won a mobile licence in Jamaica in April 2000, just months after O’Brien netted $300 million from selling Esat Telecom.

A year later, Digicel launched in Jamaica.
