Digicel invests $100m in Jamaican operation

Digicel, the Caribbean mobile-phone company owned by Denis O’Brien, is investing another $100 million in its Jamaican operation and plans to expand into 15 more countries.

Digicel, the Caribbean mobile-phone company owned by Denis O’Brien, is investing another $100 million in its Jamaican operation and plans to expand into 15 more countries.

The investment in telecoms infrastructure, shops and staff training will bring the company’s total investment in Jamaica to $600 million since 2001.

Digicel has 2.7 million customers in 20 markets and recently-acquired mobile licences in El Salvador and Guatemala.
