Diageo has named a new chief operating officer, triggering speculation that he is being lined up as a future chief executive.

Diageo has named a new chief operating officer, triggering speculation that he is being lined up as a future chief executive.

Ivan Menezes has been promoted from his present position as chairman of Diageo's Asia-Pacific unit and its Latin American and Caribbean divisions. He has been president of Diageo North America since January 2004.

He takes up his new role on March 1st.
