The state spent over €1 million on deportations last year, according to new figures from the Department of Justice.
The total cost of deportations, transfers of asylum-seekers to their country of arrival in the EU, and removals of EU nationals last year was €1,066,710. Figures for the cost of voluntary returns through the International Organisation for Migration have not yet been finalised for 2011.
