Government departments are raiding capital expenditure funding to pay bills for current spending, as some €405 million-worth of allocated capital funding remains unspent.

Several government departments are raiding capital expenditure funding to pay bills for current spending, as some €405 million-worth of allocated capital funding remains unspent this year.

Last week, health minister James Reilly confirmed in response to questions by Fianna Fáil TD Sean Fleming that savings on capital expenditure at the end of the year would be used "to mitigate excess current expenditure on a once-off basis in 2012".
