Department of Health faces budget challenges
Its targets are very unlikely to be met, writes Susan Mitchell, Health Correspondent
Under existing structures, the Minister for Health James Reilly and the Department of Health are responsible for health policy, while the Health Service Executive (HSE) operationally manages the health service.
The HSE will receive a budget of Euro 13.4 billion in 2014. It is required to draw up a national service plan setting out the type and volume of services it will provide, both directly and through a range of funded agencies, next year.
