December retail sales up 2.1 per cent

UPDATE: Retail sales rose 2.1 per cent in December from November according to the Central Statistics Office, first rise in 45 months.

Retail sales rose 2.1 per cent in December from November according to the Central Statistics Office.

Car sales drove the advance with a three per cent gain, the CSO said.

Retail Excellence Ireland, Ireland’s largest retail industry group, welcomed the news but warned that 2012 would be another very challenging year for retailers.
