Vincent Browne claims debates in the election campaign were kept to a safe range of issues, neglecting such areas as road deaths and suicides.

But he fails to see that even on the ‘‘safe’’ issues, debate was limited.

For example, on health: clearly, if the public system were world class, no one would go private, so trolleys and waiting lists are deliberate actions by politicians to promote private healthcare.
