Databases: Big data on the charge

EMC has pinned its strategy to the widespread adoption of so-called 'big data' solutions. Leslie Faughnan reports.

EMC's Greenplum data computing appliance is described as a purpose-built modular appliance, in this case aimed squarely at Big Data Analytics.

Acquired by EMC in 2010, it is the foundation of the storage giant's Big Data division. It is also targeted at the new 'data science' market sector, meeting the many challenges of usefully managing and analysing huge volumes of unstructured and structured data in today's digital world.
