The Office of the Data Protection Commissioner received a record number of complaints last year, an increase of 48 per cent on the number received in 2010.
Billy Hawkes said his office investigated 1,161 complaints in 2011 compared to 783 in 2012.
Complaints concerning access rights accounted for 562, or nearly half of the overall total, reflecting a growing level of public awareness of the right of access to a copy of personal data, Hawkes said.
