"The data centre is really the mainframe of today," according to IBM's data centre services specialist Bryan Hickson.

Responding to the suggestion that, nowadays, the data centre effectively is the computer and everything else is networks and screens, IBM's data centre services specialist Bryan Hickson said: "[The data centre] is really the mainframe of today. We invented the PC to extend the computing functionality to users who were not connected to the mainframe, or could not be. Now the connectivity is high performance and universal, so why invest in local computing?"
