The relentless pace of change and transitioning IT to the cloud has prompted lots of speculation about how data centres will evolve.

Commoditised hosting services are only one part of a fast unfolding future with many industry insiders predicting an opposite trend – more specialised and higher value data centre services. “You will start to see data centre providers who have core competencies in security, for example, or data sovereignty or SAP delivery,” said Damian Saunders, director of the cloud networking group at Citrix. “At the same time it will move beyond the realms of technology and more into customer engagement.”
