CWU criticises Vodafone for moving 300 jobs to Newry

The Communications Workers Union has criticised a move by Vodafone that it says will lead to the loss of 300 jobs in Dublin and Dundalk, with the functions moving to Newry.

“Vodafone continues to benefit from a profitable market in Ireland where it has repatriated an incredible €2 billion in profits," said the CWU.

The Communications Workers Union has criticised a move by Vodafone that it says will lead to the loss of 300 jobs in Dublin and Dundalk, with the functions moving to Newry.

The staff involved provide customer support to the mobile phone company’s Irish customer base, the union said. The CWU said that the move follows a similar situation last year where 140 Irish jobs were lost and went to Egypt and India.
